Abstract

Scaffolding is a pivotal concept in educational theory that enhances learners' comprehension through guided support from instructors. Originating from Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory, the scaffolding approach allows students to progressively acquire knowledge by providing temporary assistance, which is gradually removed as competence increases. This paper explores the theoretical foundations of scaffolding in education, analyzing its effectiveness in enhancing learner autonomy and achievement. A detailed literature review highlights its significance across various educational contexts, particularly in language learning and cognitive development. Finally, we discuss the implications of scaffolding for modern pedagogy.
