Abstract

This article explores the psychological concept of abilities and their role in the development of students' intellectual and cognitive skills, particularly within the context of mathematics education. Drawing upon the theoretical foundations laid by B.M. Teplov, it distinguishes abilities from acquired knowledge and competencies, emphasizing their dynamic and developmental nature. The paper also highlights the importance of fostering an educational environment that nurtures independent thinking, creativity, and critical engagement. By examining the relationship between instructional strategies and cognitive development, the article underscores the necessity of employing diverse pedagogical tools to stimulate students' reasoning, imagination, memory, and attention. The findings advocate for an approach to mathematics instruction that is responsive to individual cognitive traits and aimed at maximizing intellectual potential through active learning.
