REASONS FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF EUROPEAN PRISONERS TO TURKESTAN

This article is important for its coverage of the reasons for the deportation of European prisoners of war to Turkestan. It also shows that the deportation of European prisoners of war to Turkestan was a multifaceted strategy influenced by economic, social, political, geopolitical, and environmental factors. It shows that the Soviet regime saw the forced deportation of prisoners as a way to solve the acute labor shortage, control potentially subversive elements, dominate Central Asia, and exploit the region's natural resources.
